Controller on the Steam Deck is not regonized

I have installed Inquisitor Martyr on my steam deck. And i have read diffrent places that i just need to click in the controller support box under controlls... But in my case the check box is greyed out and if i hover over the check box it says i need to have the controller on when i load the game.... But the controller is part of the deck so what do i do wrong?

Although there's no guarantee or promise that Martyr will work on the Steam deck, I'll be happy to help as much as I can, but to be quite honest, I don't quite seem to understand the issue. In order to navigate to the menu where you can check the controller support box, don't you need the controller to be working already?
